The opportunities of the "Western Maritime Silk Road" tourism development were presented in Venice, at a EU Strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian Region (EUSAIR) conference held in the framework of the EU-China Tourism Year 2018.
Hellenic Republic and the Ministry of Tourism were represented at the event by the Greek Secretary General of Tourism Policy and Development, Mr. Giorgos Tziallas who was also a speaker at the conference. Mr. Tziallas presented the Ministry's strategy for the development of thematic forms of tourism and the actions undertaken by Greece to promote the Silk Road as a means of linking Europe with China.
In light of the Chinese initiative of the Western Maritime Silk Road, the conference was focused on the opportunities coming from a common integrated strategy between transport, tourism and territorial development in the Adriatic–Ionian macro –region, dealing in particular with cruise shipping. The Greek representative of Pillar II “Connecting the region” of the EUSAIR has also attended the conference. The EU-China Tourism Year program is funded by the European Commission and is run by leading European travel agencies, such as the European Travel Agency (ETC) and the European Tourism Association (ETOA) with a view to enhancing business networking and contacts between major European and Chinese tourism businesses.
